Betsey Johnson

Today I had the opportunity to meet the fabulous, amazing, and fantastic fashion designer Betsey Johnson. Betsey Johnson was definitely a designer that I’ve always wanted to meet. Not only are her designs creative and beautiful, but she also uses my favorite color — pink! It was such a wonderful experience.

When you look at her collections they are so colorful and creative. I admire her use of bright colors, glitter and pink. I love her creations, whether it be one of her bags, dresses or even her shoes. She is not afraid to be loud with her colors and bold with her designs.  Now that I have met Betsey, I can see that she is just as bold and colorful as her designs!! She is a ball of energy, she lit up the place. Everything is just exciting when it comes to her!! She had models modeling and dancing in her dresses and waving the American flag. There were girls wearing hot pink & black tutus, tied up black t-shirt with Betsey Johnson spelled out in hot pink letters, and on their feet — army studded sneakers. There was a display of her shoes, and anyone that passed by them were mesmerized. Her clothing and dresses were displayed and so was this stylish American flag styled bag. The décor of where Betsey would meet and greet her fans was so Betseylicious. There was a couch with pink pillows and across from that was the DJ booth where DJ Kalkutta was playing. We all glanced over at the couch every 5 minutes in anticipation of when we would get our moment to speak with Ms. Johnson on the couch.

Until then, it was a party while we all waited for Betsey to arrive! DJ Kalkutta was on the one’s and two’s, and hosting this whole event was blogger Micah Jesse. The music was bumpin’, and the energy was high. Micah was so sweet and engaging with the crowd, he was SO much fun. I will ever meet someone who can rock a pink floral suit like Micah Jesse, he is fabulous.

Not only was Ms. Johnson blessing us with her presence, but she was also gifting us with items from her collection with raffle drawings while we waited for her to arrive. Can you guess who won????!!!!! XENIA AMIRAH, OH YES!! Listen, I couldn’t believe that my name was called because I usually never win anything (lol) but once Micah said Xenia Amirah, I couldn’t have speed walked over to him quick enough. I had my pick of either a dress, bag or shoes.. I had to go with one of Betsey’s shoes. I chose a chic and sophisticated black pair of heels from her Blue by Betsey collection, with crystals on the heel. They are so beautiful, I love them. I can’t wait to get my Betsey on and strut down the street in those shoes, I feel so lucky! Thank you!

When Betsey arrived, she arrived in true Betsey fashion, throwing rose petals into the crowd. Micah had everyone excited and chanting her name while she made her way past all of her fans and over to the couch. The energy was high and everyone was so excited that she was there. When it was finally my turn to meet Betsey Johnson I had to take a deep breath and made sure to watch my feet so I didn’t trip (how embarrassing would that have been lol). I made it over to her and she warmly gave me a tight hug. I told her it was so nice to meet her and that I’m an aspiring designer and I love her designs. Her eyes lit up and she asked me if I’m going to school for design. I told her that I take classes at FIT and without missing a beat she told me to intern with her. She told me to get her contact from the lady standing next to her shoe display, and I said okay! Betsey pulled me in and then we posed for my photo. We sat on the couch for a little while longer and she pulled me in again so that we could pose one more time.

While I walked, clutching my Betsey Johnson hot pink tote bag with my new Betsey Johnson shoes inside, I was too excited to get over to the the printing table to get my photo printed. The party was definitely on the 5th floor of Macy’s. Micah Jesse had the crowd going, DJ Kalkutta had the music bumpin’ — playing everything from Beyoncé and Chris Brown to Kesha.. and Ms. Johnson’s girls were all interacting with the crowd. I am so happy that I got the chance to meet such a nice person. It’s such a great feeling when you meet someone and they are exactly how you imagined them, or even nicer. Ms. Johnson was just that. Her models, Micah Jesse, and all of the girls sporting tutus were so warm and welcoming. This experience was amazing and I’ll cherish my photos with Betsey Johnson forever! Thank you!

(By the way, we all received a pretty hot pink tote with Betsey Johnson written on it in glitter, and also a compact mirror. )

Bangs have always been fabulous, but clip-on bangs seem to be the biggest thing now. I’ve been rocking bangs since I was younger but I haven’t had a bang since like my Freshman year of high school lol! I really wanted to get bangs but I didn’t want to make the commitment. Thankfully a company reached out to me because they wanted me to try their new clip in bangs. All I have to say is.. I think I’ve found a new best friend, lmao! I was feeling Tyra Banks fierce after I clipped those bad boys in. I debuted my new look when I visited the PULSE art fair and later on attended an event at Macy’s. It blended perfectly with my hair and you can also put heat to it. The bang is a front ways bang but I tried combing to the side and it looked nice like that too. I’m in love with the fact that I don’t have to commit to this look, and I believe that all girls that don’t want to cut their hair but still want bangs need to add this accessory to their collection! Enjoying my new look and just bangin’ it out, xo.

Hey everyone!

I hope that you all are doing well and enjoyed your weekend! I attended the Pulse New York 2013 VIP Press Brunch was on Thursday, and I was there with bells on! When I got word that it was coming up I wanted to make sure that I was in attendance because I’ve been dying to go to an art show!! It’s definitely been a while since the last one that I went to so I was too excited to cover this one.

As soon as I walked through the door to retrieve my press pass I looked to my left and noticed the coolest piece of art. It was a 3D living room lol!! I couldn’t resist the urge to take a pic, so I whipped out my camera and made it look like I was sitting on the chair & turning on the light switch. In my new pictures you’ll also see that I’m sporting a different look, BANGS! I’ll catch you guys up on that in the beauty section after this post. Anywho, there was so much art and after retrieving my press pass I was eager to see everything. Mimosas were being served to everyone as the servers made their rounds, I didn’t drink anything though.

My favorite piece of art had to be of this sculpture of these two older ladies made of news paper with curly black hair and bags. It was funny because I bumped into it and was about to turn around and apologize when I saw it was a sculpture lol. Oh and the Beliebers would be proud to know that there was a picture of Justin up for sale. Fashionistas! There was a fabulous Chanel No. 5 photo hung up in black and white.

After viewing all of the art we were invited upstairs to grab a light brunch. All in all I had a great time! It has been quite a while since I attended anything art related so I’m happy I got to cover this event. Thank you and I’m looking forward to covering next year’s Pulse New York 2013!

“Makeup Addiction” Special Eyes Kit Review

Hola everyone! I hope that you had a Xensational day (see what I did there?) haha. Let me drop some details on these new brushes I received from Hair and Makeup Addiction !! I’ll start by saying these brushes are super soft! The brushes are not only vegan friendly, but they are also specially designed with synthetic taklon bristles, which are very soft. I’m excited to put these brushes to use, and I definitely will because for the month of May my calendar is pretty full lol.

If you’re a beginner, this is a perfect set of brushes for you to start up with. This brush set would be a great buy for you at only $25.68. I believe that if you’re a makeup artist and you’re looking to add to your collection, or a regular makeup lover — you will be very happy with these brushes! Not only are they sturdy but they get the job done. The most effective brushes feel sturdy but they are light enough to create a fabulous feather-like touch for your application.

Here is some more info on specific brushes:

The Shader can be used to conceal small areas or hard to reach areas such as around the nose and eyes. It is also perfect for applying primer or bases before your eye shadow. It can also be used to define the perimeter of your eyebrows with concealer.

The Liner is for creating a smooth and even line with liquid and gel liners. It can also be used to define the brows with powder or gel.

The Blender is for blending color in the crease and applying the color to just the tips and sweeping it back and forth for a diffused and blended finish. It can also be used to apply concealer under the eyes and on the bridge of the nose.

The Queen is the ultimate multipurpose brush that practically does everything. It can be used to contour the nose, precise contour of the cheek bones, applying concealer under the eyes for a bright under eye, stippling concealer on sun spots, blemishes and other areas of the face, applying a wash of color on the eyelid, applying a base or primer on the lid.

The Highlighter is for applying your highlight color on your brow bone and blending the crease. It can also be used for precise contour of the nose.

The Detailer is perfect for creating any detailed work. It is great for highlighting your inner tear duct area and smudging color on the bottom lash line. It can also be used to apply intense color in your crease and define our outer v.

Nfl Draft Week

Hey everyone! NFL Draft Week is in full swing;  the first round was on April 25 and continues on until the 27th. I joined in on the festivities on the 24th, I was invited to a gifting suite event for some of the players held at Clyde Frazier’s Wine and Dine. The restaurant was fabulous & chic! It was filled to capacity with media, some football players and the who’s who! Athletes, editors, and celebs unwinded & enjoyed food, gifting and grooming.

The invitation was from 12pm to 12 am. 12pm to 4pm the gifting suite was going on. I arrived a bit late, so I missed some of the action but thankfully not all. There were delicious cupcakes to nibble on amongst other finger foods. While mingling I bumped into Meeka Claxton, who happened to remember me from the time we met at Tumbler and Tipsy’s NY Fashion Week show. I also got the chance to speak to football player Bryant McKinnie, who is so much bigger in person!! He was so nice, and gladly posed for a picture. It was such a pleasure meeting actor Darrin DeWitt Henson, who was at the event promoting his new book, “Intimate Thoughts”. He is even more handsome in person, and was so welcoming.

I had fun browsing through some of the brands that were showcasing their clothing and products. There was a young designer that has his own bow line, Mo’s Bows, which I thought was extremely adorable.

I took a look at some of the latest t-shirts from Invisible Bully. I also fell in love with some doggy apparel for a good cause! This light pink doggy dress with diamond embellishments caught my eye specifically because I know that my dog Ariel, who just passed away on March 2nd would’ve looked beautiful in it. Supra sneakers were on display, etc. I spotted Renee from Mob Wives, she breezed in looking very pretty and was enjoying herself with a few friends. I loved the goodie bag I received.

After the gifting suite, there was an exclusive “private-event” media dinner reserved for the athletes, media & sponsors to interact with the players and discuss news, draft information, and any questions that media wanted to ask.

Fast forward to 9pm, the Fusion Magazine Red Carpet Cover Party was in full swing! This party did not disappoint. Everyone was dressed ”Manhattan Chic” and ready for a night of fun. Once again, the lounge was full to the max. The music was on point too! The party was for the unveiling of the April edition with cover model and actor Laz Alonso. He looked great on the cover might I add, but I know nobody is surprised by that lol.

I was taking photos and guess who I ran into? There was a singing show on tv last year called Duets that unfortunately isn’t returning, but the winner of the show J Rome was at the party and it was such a pleasure meeting him! He is a very nice guy and is so talented. I wish him all of the best in his singing career.

The rest of the night went smoothly and I had a wonderful time! Thank you very much for the invite Ms. Nikkia, your events never disappoint! xo

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Products

Spring time is here and warm weather is right around the corner. You will have to break out the shorts soon! Girls, warm weather = exposed skin. We can’t be outside with dark spots and skin blemishes! Palmer’s wanted me to test out their new line of Cocoa Butter Eventone skin products and I gladly obliged. Over the years I’ve noticed that my knees have gotten a little dark. Skin discoloration has to be one of the most irritating things. This is definitely something that I would like to get rid of eventually, so I was excited to use the product. I know that I’m not alone on this quest to an even skintone, so let me tell you more about this product!

Last Summer while I covering Miami Swim Week I received a ton of Palmer’s products in one of my gift bags. I used their products all Summer, and it left my skin very vibrant and smooth. I love their cocoa butter body oil; it smelled great and it was easy to apply especially when I was being lazy. It got quite messy sometimes though, but anyway.. back to the eventone products! I have to say that my favorite product out of all three was the Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Eventone Body Milk!! It is perfect! This cream is not too thick so it’s not annoying to apply. After using the body milk my skin is super soft. The scent is nice also. I’ve been using all of these products for 2 weeks or so. So far, I see that my skin is more vibrant after using the body milk. Like stated above, the scent is nice. I will keep using this product to see if there is a difference in my knees, but if there is no difference I’ll still be pleased because my skin is even more smooth now!

I’ve been using the fade cream everyday. You’re supposed to use it twice a day to see results. The smell is quite strong but tolerable. It takes a bit of work to rub it in but after your done you’ll be feeling fresh and moisturized. If you have sensitive skin then take a small dab and see how your skin reacts. I have sensitive skin and I didn’t have a reaction to it.. but everyone is different. I will keep using it and I’ll follow up soon.  If you have an acne scar or two that you would like to get rid of or an annoying blemish this product can help you out. I had a blemish on my cheek and it has vanished!  I would recommend this.

I have not used too much of the dark spot corrector. I don’t have a use for this too much and I did not want to overload my skin with a bunch of new products at the same time because I was afraid of having a bad reaction. The dark spot corrector smells good. It smells so good that you will probably think that it shouldn’t go on your face but I believe that you will be fine. The product is clear and thin when you use it. I will use more of this product soon though and I’ll let you know how it is.

Overall, I give this product an A-! If you need an everyday face cream that makes your skin glow and look/feel fresh I would definitely recommend the fade cream and body milk. You will be an extremely happy customer!

NYC Based MUA Rina

                         I am so excited to introduce you all to my friend Rina who is a great makeup artist. She is based in New York but if you go on her Instagram, you will see that her work is known all over. Makeup has always been a passion of Rina’s, but she is also going to school while pursuing her dreams. Happy Birthday to my God Mother in my head, the beautiful Mariah Carey! It’s also her wedding anniversary so I’m curious to see how her and Nick are going to celebrate this year! I think that they might be celebrating at Disney World… either which way, happy birthday to the most fabulous diva we know! (P.S. can’t wait for the new album… )
