Couture Fashion Week
Every year I receive the opportunity to cover Couture Fashion Week, and this year I was finally able to make it. I was only able to stay for one show though because I had to attend a lot of events. The set up of the runway and room set the perfect mood of what was to come down the runway. The crowd sat in anticipation of designer Marcia Ganem’s collection, but before the designs came down the runway we were entertained by a pianist by the name of Laura Korpa. Laura Korpa has been singing and playing piano since the age of 7, and composing since age 9. Since her arrival in the USA from her native Latvia 3 years ago, Ms. Korpa has kept a busy performance schedule appearing at a number of New York City restaurants and events. She walked out in a dress, and a stuffed animal in hand. She rocked the stuffed animal before gently placing it on the runway and then started to play. We looked on with eyebrows raised, but appreciated her uniqueness because.. it is Couture Fashion Week! She played very well and the crowd clapped away at the end of her performance.
Finally, the moment we were all waiting for had arrived. The first piece from Ganem’s collection glided down the runway, and it made us all really excited of what else was to come. The material that Marcia Ganem used was perfect. My favorite pieces had to be a feathered dress that was in the collection, and the skin baring — leaving little to the imagination beaded gown. It was creative and different. A show-stopper in my eyes, because everyone perked up and snapped away with their cameras as the model wearing that gown sashayed down the runway.
Marcia Ganem’s designs represent a strong link between fashion, art and jewelry with the use of innovative techniques and materials developed through extensive research. One of these techniques, now Ms. Ganem’s trademark, is the use of recycled Polyamide Fibers, be they natural, dyed, or knotted with semi-precious gems. Through the use of new materials and the incorporation of native tradition, Ms. Ganem’s distinctive designs are both backward- and forward-looking. Marcia Ganem has been featured in publications worldwide including Vogue, Mag!, Brazil Fashion, Ibiza Style, and Trendsetter. Celebrities who have worn her designs include Alicia Keyes. She’s been in the business for over 16 years.
Marcia, I loved your collection! It was new, different, and fresh. Congratulations! xo
