Shade or No Shade? – Anna Wintour on Why She Put The Wests On Vogue Cover

Now I usually don’t post on here about Kim Kardashian but I found this article hilarious. Anna’s decision to even put Kim and Kanye on Vogue made me raise my eyebrow extremely high and wonder what the point was.. now we all know why below (lol) check it out. Queen Anna has spoken.

Just when the world starts to calm down about Kim Kardashian’s Internet-breaking appearance on Paper magazine, another controversial Kim cover shoot gets brought back into the conversation: the star’s Vogue cover with now-husband Kanye West (proving that they are still, indeed, the #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple).

This time, it was Anna Wintour who mentioned the Kimye cover while speaking at The Museum of Metropolitan Art. The editor-in-chief gave advice to new designers, spoke about the late Oscar de la Renta and also explained why she featured the Kardashian-Wests despite their not necessarily being “deeply tasteful” (her words).

“I Think if we just remain deeply tasteful and just put deeply tasteful people on the cover, it would be a rather boring magazine,” Wintour explained, “Nobody would talk about us. It’s very important that people do talk about us. Going back to Estée Lauder’s decision to make Kendall Jenner the face of Estée Lauder: what a fantastic decision that was. They have a wonderful brand that’s very traditionally American, and they decided they want to shake it up and reach a different audience. Now and again one has to do things like that. I think it’s part of the excitement and part of being a journalist. I hope another Kim Kardashian comes along this year!”

While we highly doubt there will ever be “another Kim Kardashian” (and we know Kim just shuddered at the phrase, wherever she is in the world) we were surprised to hear Wintour so clearly — and candidly — state that she worked with them so that “people would talk about us.”
